Articles of War was a narrative short film shot at the studios of Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa Idaho. This film dramatizes a very real and heart wrenching dilemma many submarine crews were faced with. The students at NNU build a realistic looking WWII S-Class Submarine on a only $1500 budget and borrowed authentic WWII equipment.
The whole film was shot in one gruelling weekend in April 2013. Director Arnold Ytreeide, the professor at the NNU Film School, also wrote the script for this film. He hopes to have this made into a full length feature film in the future. I managed to accidentally get myself the minor part of being the ships "Talker". The "Talker" relays the captain's orders to from the control room to other parts of the ship. I got the part while touring the film department and asking the professor what kind of stuff they did there. He told me he had a few parts left on something and asked me to come find out. On the shoot was a very professional attitude. Everyone on set acted as if this was a big Hollywood Production, which is actually what it felt like. The film finally hopped out of the editing room in August to much anticipated fanfare. The production quality, the acting, and the meaningful story makes this film a must see for all ages.
